Larch Canopy

This canopy links three main blocks through a constantly twisting and undulating roof. The semi-covered structure incorporates informal social space an outdoor classroom and purely expresses the simple structural members. Rafters are occasionally excluded to provide a variety density, light and shadow. Simple galvanised posts lift the structure high above the student activity below creating a lofty spaces for contemplation, socialising and protection from the elements. This is the first project in the masterplan to be delivered and is a precursor for further elements which will 'stitch' together the disparate buildings. The form of the canopy will unify the western end of the quad and link to another canopy and walkway in a future phase. This structure is due for completion by the new year.
