Feilden Fowles has won the Young Architect of the Year Award in the American Institute of Architects (AIA) UK 2015 Excellence in Design Awards. Founding partners Fergus Feilden and Edmund Fowles collected the award at a ceremony at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery on Tuesday 28th April.

The AIA UK is the UK chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and the Excellence in Design Awards are presented annually to UK-based architects for projects in the UK and overseas. The Young Architect of the Year Award is in its inaugural year and celebrates high calibre buildings completed by an emerging generation of architects under the age of 40. The prize was awarded to Feilden Fowles for the Lee Centre at Ralph Allen School, Bath.

The Tuk Tuk is a unique flower studio occupying a narrow tiled ‘staircase to nowhere’ The light-touch refurbishment provides a flexible blank canvas to allow the client’s installations and flowers to take centre stage. Feilden Fowles Architects are seeking a Part III qualified Architect with at least three years professional experience to join the practice.

Candidates should demonstrate the following skills:

· Exceptional design skills and confident at all design stages
· Experience of running jobs within an office through all RIBA stages
· Excellent drafting skills, with the ability to work efficiently in 3D and produce high quality images
· Competency in 2D Microstation is favoured
· Broad technical/ construction knowledge and detailing ability
· Experience managing a project on-site as Contract Administrator
· Clear, concise and articulate communicator
· Excellent organisational and time management skills, with experience of working well under pressure.
· Ready to work well as part of a small team, be proactive, show initiative and act autonomously

Tuesday night saw the opening of the Russell Page exhibition at the Garden Museum celebrating the life and work of the garden designer. Feilden Fowles were delighted to be invited to design the exhibition giving a first view of Page’s archive and a glimpse of how he worked during his years as one of the most highly prized garden designers in the world. We are delighted to announce the Fitzjames Teaching and Learning Centre at Hazlegrove School has been shortlisted for a regional RIBA South West award. We look forward to the RIBA judges visit soon and the final announcement in May.

Feilden Fowles are very proud to announce that The Lee Centre has won a National Civic Trust Award out of only 32 buildings in the country to win. We are delighted the building has achieved this award for its outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the built environment, demonstrating excellence in architecture, sustainability, universal design and making a positive social, cultural, environmental and economic contribution to the local community. Congratulations to the project team and other winners within the region.

The exceptionally rigorous and rational Rose building has recently been awarded the LABC Award for Design Quality in B&NES along with being highly commended for Building Quality. This project represents outstanding value for money at less than £1300/ m2 construction cost. It was designed and delivered in less than a year with a construction period of 7 months. The Cross Laminated Timber structure and cantilevered beams are optimised to reduce wastage and support the suspended steel stair inspired by South Korean artist Do Ho Suh.

Feilden Fowles are excited to announce that the The Lee Centre in Bath has been nominated as a Civic Trust Award Regional Finalist. We look forward to hearing the verdict from the National Panel if the building is successful in achieving a Civic Trust Award, Commendation or Community Recognition at a National / International Level.

This unique exhibition at the Jewish Museum, New York designed by Feilden Fowles in collaboration with A Practice for Everyday Life, opens its doors to the public today. This is the first exhibition to explore the ideas, innovations, and influence of the legendary cosmetics entrepreneur Helena Rubinstein (1872 – 1965). Madame (as she was universally known) helped break down the status quo of taste by blurring boundaries between commerce, art, fashion, beauty, and design. Through 200 objects Beauty Is Power reveals how Rubinstein’s unique style and pioneering approaches to business challenged conservative taste and heralded a modern notion of beauty, democratized and accessible to all.
